Hatha Yoga

Relaxation through movement

Yoga and mindfulness are inseparable companions on the path to a more conscious, stress-freer and meditative life. Hatha Yoga according to B.K.S. Iyengar allows you to take a refreshing break for your body and soul through a combination of simple stretching- and strengthening exercises with emphasis on peaceful flowing breathing.

Whether carried out directly in the workplace or otherwise in a group of colleagues or in individual training, the yoga positions quickly help you access greater well-being, relaxation and better health.

We sit almost all day long.

Today, most people spend the greater part of their time on the job sitting at a desk. This has consequences for both the active and passive musculoskeletal system.

They begin to experience more and more restrictions in their ability to move. They quickly experience shortening of their thigh muscles and often have cramps in their calves. Most conspicuous are, however, back- neck and particular types of head pain.

With Hatha Yoga, you help yourself to a well-balanced body and spirit relationship.

Offer of compensatory movement in the company

Hatha yoga is well-suited to offer as a compensatory movement form in a company. Hatha yoga exercises according to B.K.S. Iyengar are usually not dynamic. Instead, they are held longer. The focus is on enhancing mobility and activating the most possible fiber for development of strength and the coordination of muscles. Everything is carried out with an emphasis on maintaining calm, flowing breathing.

In other words, not athletic output, but an active break for body and spirit.

Hatha-Yoga according to B.K.S. Iyengar has the following results:

  • mobility is enhanced
  • a positive influence on body and spirit
  • increases ability to concentrate
  • has a long relaxing effect
  • stabilises the body
  • strengthens muscles and joints
  • stretches muscles, sinews and fascia
  • enhances body balance
  • aids against sleep problems
  • clears the spirit
  • enhances blood circulation
  • has a positive effect on blood pressure

Yoga in the Company

Everyone can practice yoga, but not every yoga position. Participation is independent of age, sex, weight, personal history or level of physical mobility. We adapt every position to the individual’s ability.

The yoga position sequences are put together systematically. During the sequence, and depending on the experience of the practitioners, the positions become more complex and difficult. Through small variations and the resultant differentiated awareness of the body, even practitioners with many years of experience find simpler positions interesting.

Hatha-Yoga works

You can actively work to prevent symptoms of fatigue and degeneration through improved awareness of your body.

Development of concentration helps you learn to more easily distinguish between what is important and what is not.

Engaging with the experience in this moment supports the ability to let go.

Hatha Yoga is recommended

to enhance physical and psychical well-being

for people who spend much time sitting or in work processes which offer no physical movement such as sport

for people whose energies are mostly in their heads because their mental capacities are constantly in demand in the workplace

in cases of high stress

to combat sleep disruption

to counteract back and neck pain and particular kinds of headache (the effectiveness is proven in studies, for example, Herrmann Traiteur 2012)

When should one not practice Yoga? Or when should Yoga only be practiced after consulting the responsible physician?

in the case of acute illness; when particular medications are being taken; in the case of chemo- or radiotherapy

in the case of acute bone breaks and acute slipped discs

in the case of certain psychological illnesses

One should not begin to practice Yoga before the end of the twelfth week of pregnancy.

Otherwise, if the physician agrees, a practitioner can continue with yoga during the beginning of a pregnancy.

Prior to a participant’s first practice, we ask questions to determine whether there are possible restrictions on a yoga practice.

The seated twist

A little exercise

You can prevent threatening back tension on the job with this simple exercise. Sit sideways on a chair and hold on to the chairback with both hands.

Put your feet directly under your knees and turn your upper body slowly towards the chairback.

With every in-breath, stretch your upper body gently up, and with every out-breath turn your upper body a bit further.
While turning your upper body, don’t turn your buttocks and keep your legs stable.

Sit like this for about twenty seconds and then return to the center.
Wait two or three breaths before you do the other side.

Carry out the exercise on the second side as you did on the first.
